What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic lashes of different lengths, curls and weight (thickness) cut in the shape of a natural lash and applied one-by-one to each individual natural lash as an ‘extension’ of your natural lash. Lash extensions are not strip lashes, clusters or flares. Lash extensions are meant to lengthen, thicken and enhance the natural lash line without causing any pain, discomfort or lash loss when applied properly.
How long does it take to apply lash extensions?
The lash extension application can take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the fullness of your natural lashes. The human eye has between 90-200 lashes per eye. Volume lashes take twice as long to apply. The more lashes that you have, the more extensions we can apply! This is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration. Therefore, it is important not to rush the process so that you can leave with a perfect set of lashes! You will be relaxing with your eyes closed, and you will feel no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Many of my clients are so relaxed that they often fall asleep....what's known as a lash nap!
How many lash extensions do you apply?
A normal human eye has between 90-200 lashes per eye. Lash Hooked applies an extension to each and every lash you have. I don’t miss a single one! (Except for any new growth because they are too weak to hold an extension, and I want them to come in healthy and strong!) A full set is a FULL set. For those wanting ultra glam, thick lashes, or those with very little natural lashes, I offer Volume lashes; the application of 2-5D ultra light-weight eyelash extensions applied to each individual natural eyelash.
Can my lash extensions be removed?
Yes. Your extensions can be removed at anytime. This takes about 30 minutes for any set I have applied. In the event that you need to have a set removed from another lash tech, it may take longer if they were applied incorrectly. I do not charge to remove my clients lash extensions in hopes that you will come to me instead of trying to remove them yourself causing horrible, sometimes unrepairable damage!
Who wears eyelash extensions?
They are not just for celebrities! Normal, everyday ladies love eyelash extensions, and many can't live without them! From a business professional, to a bride on her special day, to a stay-at-home-mom who just doesn't have time for makeup- anyone who wants longer lashes without having to wear mascara will love eyelash extensions. The extensions come in a variety of lengths, curls, and colors so you can have the lashes you have dreamed of!
Can I still wear eye makeup?
Yes, but most clients don't even feel the need to wear eye makeup...Just wake up and go! No more running, streaking, smudging, or flaking mascara. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadows as usual, as long as it is not waterproof or liquid, as these products will break down the adhesive. Mascara is NOT recommended, as this will clump up the extensions and cause your extensions to come off earlier than expected. I recommend a water-based makeup remover, which helps to remove any makeup near your extensions so that you never have to rub your lashes.
How safe are eyelash extensions?
The lashes are applied directly to the natural lash, never applied to the skin. The procedure is pain free and the extensions are feather light, so they will not pull your natural lashes out. I take extra care to make sure to cover each individual lash and isolate them correctly. I do not clump lashes together, apply them to the skin, or damage your natural lashes with improper application. The eyes should always remain closed while receiving this proceedure. If you like to pull on your lashes/eyebrow hair or if you rub your eyes a lot, it absolutely can cause damage over time. It does take a few lifestyle changes to properly care for lash extensions so that you can enjoy them for years to come.
Can I wear mascara?
No. If you wear mascara, the longevity of your extensions will be greatly reduced, and you will need to come in more often for a fill, which will inevitably cost YOU more money. You can wear mascara on the bottom lashes, however, you must remove all your eye makep with a water-based cleanser before you go to sleep or it will goop up the base of your extensions and cause premature shedding.
How long do they last?
Lash extensions require touch ups every 2-3 weeks to maintain their fullness. The longevity of your extensions will vary based upon your natural lash growth cycle; if your hair grows fast, then so will your extensions, and fills will be needed more often. If you follow the instructions for caring for your lash extensions, your lashes will remain fuller longer. The average human eye sheds 5-7 natural eyelashes per day, this is 70-90 natural lashes within 2 weeks (half your natural eyelashes), this is why we recommend fills every 2 to 3 weeks. In SOME cases, clients have gone close to 4 weeks with great retention. That is fine, BUT If you return for a fill with less than 40% of your extensions in place, you will be required to obtain a full set.
Can anyone apply lash extensions?
Licensing varies State to State. Check with your licensing board for regulations. Most reputable lash extension companies will only certify licensed beauty professionals. The State of Florida requires ALL individuals that fall within this Occupational Licensing scope of practice to be licensed Estheticians or Cosmetologists. Be careful who you allow to apply lash extensions to your eyes, just because they say they are certified does not mean that they are licensed, nor does it mean they are actually qualified. Ask to see their licensing credentials, ask to see photos of their "own" work, not stock images. Make sure the facility is clean and organized and regularly inspected. If you have a "bad feeling", then best to walk away.
Who should not get lash extensions?
An individual with any allergy to adhesives or cyanoacrylate adhesives. An individual who has undergone chemotherapy over the last six months, or an individual who does not have natural eyelashes may not have Eyelash Extensions applied. Lashes that grow into the eye are not candidates for lash extensions either. If you suffer from an eye infection or a degenerative eye disease, I cannot apply lash extensions. If your sleep on your face (stomach sleeper) you should not get eyelash extensions, you will end up rubbing them off in your pillow, and most likely need a full set at each fill appointment.
If I only have a few natural lashes, can I get lash extensions?
I apply lash extensions to your natural lashes. I do not glue the extensions directly to your skin. For those clients with sparse natural lashes, I can apply volume lashes for a thicker lash line. In some cases I can create a "bridge" to cover gaps.
Can I get my lashes wet?
Yes, it use to be recommended to wait 24 hours, but advances in the glue I use allows me to "set" it before you leave, thus allowing you to get them wet immediately after!
How do I care for my extensions?
What is Microblading?
Microblading is the artistic technique of tattooing individual hair strokes with a handheld tool called a microblade. Unlike traditional tattooing, which uses a machine, microblading artists hand draw each hair to match the color and coarseness of your eyebrows. The result? Gorgeous, natural looking eyebrows.
How long does it last?
Microbladed eyebrows can last 1 to 3 years for most people, before it usually needs a touch up.
Does it hurt?
Most clients report little to no pain! I use a topical anesthetic before the procedure to numb the affected area and a secondary numbing gel in-between the first and second pass.
What does it cost?
The going rate in this area is $450 up to $800!
I received my certification through MLA in Los Angeles, CA. in August of 2018. Being fairly new, I am charging an introductory price of $250 for the initial appointment and $100 for the 6 week touch up. Eventually my price will go up to $350 for the initial and $150 for the touch-up.
How long is the appointment?
It usually takes 2-4 hours, with most of the time spent going over colors and drawing eyebrow shapes. The microblading portion lasts 30-45 minutes. Time depends on many factors, but you definitely do not want to rush the process.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
In the week before your appointment, we recommend avoiding blood thinners, aspirin, alcohol or using retinol creams.
How long does it take to heal?
In the first 7 days, you'll need to avoid getting them wet, working out or wearing brow makeup. It takes about 30 days to completely heal, during which time you may experience mild scabbing.
What is the after care procedure?
Microblading post-care is very important to the appearance and longevity of your new eyebrows. Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure.
After 5-7 days, make sure your hands are completely clean and gently apply the post-care ointment with clean hands. This can be done once at night time, but be sure to use the ointment sparingly as your skin needs to heal itself. Please continue to apply the ointment for 7 days.
The following must be avoided during all 14 days post-microblading procedure:
Please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the showerhead or take a bath.
Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post-microblading procedure. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.
If you have any unexpected problems with the healing of the skin, please contact me immediately to discuss further instructions.
Contact a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: fever, redness at the site, swelling, tenderness at the procedure site, elevated body temperature, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, and/or any green/yellow discharge that is foul in odor.
When should I get a touch-up?
After 6 weeks.
